SIMANGGANG: The Sarawak government remains committed to enhancing the education system by ensuring students not only excel academically but also develop the necessary skills to meet future industry demands.

In stating this, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the state government prioritises human capital development through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) while strengthening institutions of higher learning such as Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), Curtin University, and Swinburne University of Technology of Sarawak Campus.

“We want to ensure that students in Sarawak achieve not only academic success but also gain the essential skills required to meet the evolving needs of various industries.

“As such, we are focusing on technical education and vocational training as a strategic initiative to develop a highly skilled workforce,” he said.

He said this during the Seri Gamang Appreciation Ceremony (ASGA) for 2023/2024 Form Six students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sri Aman, held at Eden Sri Aman Hall here recently.

During the event, 79 Form Six students were awarded certificates in recognition of their academic achievements.

Several outstanding students also received special awards, including Fatin Farzana Mohamad Rosly, who was honoured with both the Seri Gamang Award and the Best Curriculum Student Award.

Meanwhile, Jacquline Anna Lisa Anthony was named Best Co-curricular Student, and Muhammad Ariff Muhammad Amirul received the Best Personality Award, reflecting the diverse skills and potential of Sarawakian students.

In support of education in Simanggang, Francis also announced an RM30,000 allocation under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) for the SMK Sri Aman Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

This initiative is part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing efforts to build an education system that goes beyond academic excellence by equipping students with practical, industry-relevant skills, ultimately contributing to the state’s economic development.
