KUCHING: Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, received a courtesy visit from an Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) delegation here on Thursday (Aug. 27).
According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), the delegation was led by ISSA’s Secretary-General, Nasser Majali.
The hour-long meeting at Abdul Karim’s office in Petra Jaya focused on strengthening ties and exchanging views on sports development.
Abdul Karim welcomed the visit, describing it as a useful platform for discussions that could benefit sports development among Islamic countries.
He also shared Sarawak’s experience in hosting national and international sporting events, including its preparations to co-host the 2027 SEA Games.
During a briefing, Nasser explained that ISSA is the governing body responsible for organising the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG), which are held every four years.
The Games involve 57 countries under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, with the latest edition held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last year.
He said Malaysia had been selected to host the next edition of the Games in 2029.
Also present were Deputy Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee, and Olympic Council of Malaysia’s Secretary-General Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dzulkornain Masron, was also present.
