Sarawak strikes gold in mixed relay as Job makes triumphant return

KUCHING: Sarawak won gold in the mixed 4x100m medley relay, leaving Sabah in second place and Brunei Darussalam, third.

The Sarawak quartet of Kayleigh Ang, Chereen Ngo, Job Tan Xi Jay and Hii Puong Wei clocked a time of 4:13.32, while Sabah’s Laura Lee Yen Nie, Emmanuel Loh Yung Min, Chu Xin Ying and Samuel Ng Chong Cheng finished with 4:22.61.

Brunei Darussalam’s Joel Ling, Abbey Wong, Nur Haziq Samil, and Sharmeen Mohd Mharvin recorded 4:26.56.

Job, 2022 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games bronze medallist, won silver in the men’s 100m breaststroke and helped Sarawak take gold in the mixed 4x100m medley relay on Day 1 of the Borneo Games Kuching 2025.

The comeback swimmer, returning to competitive action after nearly three years away from the Sarawak team, clocked 1:05.47 in the 100m breaststroke, finishing just behind current national swimmer Hii, who claimed gold with a time of 1:04.08.

“After coming out of retirement and posting a season-best after three years, I’m quite satisfied with my time.

“It’s fun to be back competing for Sarawak, bringing back memories, pushing myself, and enjoying the spirit of sports,”he told Sarawak Tribune on Thursday (Sept 25).

Their victory highlighted Sarawak’s depth in both individual and team events.

The Borneo Games swimming events continue at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, with Sarawak aiming to build on their strong Day 1 performance and reach their target of 16 gold medals.
