KUCHING: With just seven days left before the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), Sarawak’s table tennis squad has entered the final phase of its preparations with its sights firmly set on a gold medal.
Sarawak Table Tennis Association president Jacky Sia said the team has trained consistently throughout its campaign, with the focus now shifting to fine-tuning performances and ensuring players are physically and mentally ready for competition, which begins on Aug 18.
“The team is in a good position at this stage. The players have been working hard and training consistently.
“With six days to go, our focus now is on fine-tuning, recovery, and making sure everyone is physically and mentally prepared,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
Jacky said the squad is concentrating on improving consistency in both the singles and doubles events while giving equal attention to the players’ mental readiness.
“The coaches are communicating closely with the players and giving them the space to talk about their concerns.
“They help the players manage and release the pressure, while also keeping them focused and positive.
“At this stage, mental preparation is just as important as physical preparation,” he said.
Despite the final adjustments, Jacky said the team’s objective remains unchanged.
“The target remains the same. The players have shown good progress through recent training and competitions.
“We still have areas to improve, but we will stay focused and work hard for that one gold medal at SUKMA,” he said.
Confident in the squad’s preparations, Jacky believes the players are ready to rise to the challenge.
“We just need to stay focused, stay calm and trust the preparation,” he said.
