SIBU: The Malaysian Global Taekwondo Federation (MGTF) Sarawak’s youthful squad made a strong statement at the 8th Sarawak Schools (WT) Martial Arts Championship.
The championship, held at Sibu Indoor Stadium from July 18–20, saw the team collecting two gold, three silver, and five bronze medals.
In a statement, the team said that the 24-member contingent, accompanied by six officials, joined more than 400 participants from across the state in the prestigious annual event.
Gold medalists Mohamad Azmir Fahmi of SMK Bekenu, Miri, triumphed in the Male 13–15 Years Feather category, while Awangku Haziq of SMK Three Rivers claimed top honours in the Male 13–15 Years Light division.
Silver medals went to Nur Kaseh Khuzairah of SK Agama (MIS) Mukah (Female 10–12 Years Fin), Awangku Taufiq of SMK St Patrick Mukah (Male 13–15 Years Fly), and Aariz Rayfal of SJK C Chong Boon Mukah (Male 10–12 Years Welter).
The bronze medalists were Ariana Rayfa of SJK C Chong Boon (Female 8–9 Years C), Mohammad Aqil Danish of SJK C Chong Boon Mukah (Male 10–12 Years Heavy), Muhammad Haziq of SMK Mukah (Male 13–15 Years Welter), Rifa Rosidi of SMK St Patrick Mukah (Female 13–15 Years Bantam), and Aysar Firash of SK Agama (MIS) Mukah (Male 10–12 Years Fly).
The championship not only showcased Sarawak’s emerging taekwondo talent but also provided a platform for schools and clubs to exchange skills, fostering the sport’s growth in the state.
