KUCHING: Sarawak is setting its sights on attracting five million tourists in 2025, with projected tourism receipts reaching RM10 billion.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed confidence that this target is achievable especially with the state expected to have its own airline this year.

“Additionally, we will organise various events as we did in previous years, with funding support from the state government.

“Through this approach, I am confident we can achieve the target of five million tourists in 2025,” he said.

He said this when speaking to reporters at the Boney M 50th Anniversary Tour concert here last night (Jan 4).

Abdul Karim also highlighted Sarawak’s successful tourism performance in 2024 as a positive sign for meeting future targets.

“Last year, we set a target of four million tourists and successfully reached that number by November.

“The actual figure will be known by mid-January, and I can say that it is close to five million tourists including December,” he added.
