KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Coordination Committee (STCC) concluded its final 2024 meeting, Tuesday (Dec 3), focusing strategic planning to reach its target of five million visitors in 2025.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Yew Chew, stressed leveraging local products, food and strategic initiatives to elevate Sarawak’s tourism profile.
“We have a very good discussion today as we also have input from Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) honorary secretary-general Chua Jun Chuan, who presented a study between Sabah and Sarawak.
“And the study was good and we look forward to receiving a copy of the report, detailing Sabah and Sarawak’s strengths and recommendations for future action.
“We also heard from several professors who plan to collaborate with our ministry, as well as with Division Residents and officers, to promote and conduct research in their respective local areas,” he said during the press conference held after the meeting at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre here.
Besides, Ting also said the ministry is working very hard to reach the target.
“There have been many proposals submitted, and while we’re leaving the execution to the relevant parties, we will continue to push beyond business as usual. It’s essential that we do more than what has been done in the past.”
He added that planning for 2025 is ongoing, and Divisions are urged to submit their event proposals as soon as possible to help finalise the calendar for the year.
Looking ahead to the future, Ting said that preparations are already underway for Malaysia’s Tourism Year in 2026.
“The federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture is also very eager and committed to making 2026 a success.
“We are all coming together to make sure that both 2025 and 2026 will be milestones for tourism in Malaysia.”
