KUCHING: Age will be no barrier to competition when around 240 veteran golfers aged 55 and above gather for the Sarawak International Senior Amateur Golf Championship (SISAGC) 2026 this October.
Scheduled for October 24 and 25 at Sarawak Golf Club (KGS), the Asia-level championship is expected to attract senior amateur golfers from ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific region and across Malaysia, further strengthening Sarawak’s growing reputation as a sports tourism destination.
The championship is sanctioned by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) and approved by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia.
It is dedicated to the ‘Golden Legends of the Game’ – senior amateur golfers aged 55 and above from across Asia and beyond.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and organising chairman, Datuk Eddie Abdullah, said SISAGC 2026 is envisioned as a celebration of experience, sportsmanship and healthy ageing.
He said the tournament aims to provide a world-class platform for veteran golfers to compete with dignity while inspiring younger generations to embrace golf as a lifelong sport.
With participation expected from more than 10 countries, Eddie said the championship would also reinforce Sarawak’s tourism narrative by showcasing the state’s golfing facilities, culture and hospitality to an international audience.
“We aim to position Sarawak as a premier sports tourism destination by showcasing Kuching’s golf courses, culture, gastronomy, nature and hospitality to an international audience of high-income participants and visitors.
“It is hoped that these high-income individuals, together with their spouses and families, will experience Sarawak not just as a golf destination, but as a cultural and eco-tourism hub through extended stays. This is sports tourism with purpose,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
Beyond competition, Eddie said the championship also supports the national agenda of promoting active and healthy ageing by encouraging senior citizens to remain physically active through sport.
SISAGC 2026 is organised by Borneo SuperAct Events in collaboration with Sarawak Bumiputera Amateur Golf Association (PGABS) as the strategic partner, with support from Sarawak Golf Club.
Eddie also called on public-spirited companies, corporate partners, sports organisations, and businesses serving the senior community to support the championship through sponsorships or in-kind contributions.
Meanwhile, local senior golfers are encouraged to register early as participation is limited.
An early bird registration fee of RM500 for Malaysian golfers is available until August 31.
