SARAWAK’S timber industry has achieved an export value of RM625 million in the first quarter of 2025.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said plywood contributed an export value of RM317 million, an increase of four per cent compared to RM305 million for the same period last year.
“Japan remained the main importer with RM359 million, followed by India with RM85 million, Middle Eastern countries with RM77 million, China with RM21 million, and the Philippines with RM20 million,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here on Wednesday.
Awang Tengah, who is also Bukit Sari assemblyman, said that in line with technological developments, PUSAKA also works closely with the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) through the TimberReality.my platform.
“This collaboration aims to promote and market timber products via digital platforms,” he said.
He also said that to strengthen the regulatory role of PUSAKA, the State Government Cabinet Meeting (MMKN) has approved the Sarawak Timber Industry (Licensing) Regulations, 2025.
“Accordingly, PUSAKA has developed the Timber Industry Regulatory and Compliance System (TRACE) aimed at improving service efficiency in line with digital transformation initiatives,” he said.
