KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak is on track to double the size of its economy from RM148.2 billion in 2024 to RM282 billion by 2030, driven by the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030) and the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the state’s strong fiscal discipline, innovation-focused policies and prudent governance had placed Sarawak among Malaysia’s top-performing regional economies.

“Sarawak’s revenue has nearly doubled from RM7.6 billion in 2021 to RM14.2 billion in 2024 reflecting our sound management and strong economic fundamentals,” he said in his speech at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (UNIMAS) 29th convocation ceremony at Arena Gemilang, Detar Putra, today.
He said Sarawak’s transformation is already producing tangible outcomes, with employment rising to 1.21 million and unemployment declining to 3.4 percent, alongside a 21 percent increase in median household income to RM5,504.
Uggah added that under PCDS 2030, the state’s development is anchored on three key pillars, namely economic prosperity, inclusive society and environmental sustainability forming the foundation of its long-term transformation.
He also highlighted Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s launch of the Sarawak 13th Malaysia Plan (2026-2030), which outlines 15 key sectors and enablers to accelerate growth in line with PCDS 2030’s targets.
“The plan reflects Sarawak’s commitment to sustainable and equitable growth, strengthening resilience against global challenges and ensuring that no community is left behind,” he said.
Among the major thrusts include advanced technology adoption, green energy expansion, digital transformation and the creation of high-value jobs.
Uggah said the state aims to raise renewable energy capacity to 10 gigawatts by 2030 and 15 gigawatts by 2035, positioning Sarawak as the ‘Battery of Asean’.
