KUCHING: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation’s (SEDC) new energy arm, SEDC Energy (SEDCE), is collaborating with hydrogen technology solutions provider Hydrexia to transport clean hydrogen molecules from Sarawak and beyond in solid form.
Following a series of studies and engagements with relevant agencies, SEDCE has identified solid-state hydrogen transport as the most viable method for small and medium-volume shipments.
“This method is designed for safe transport at ambient pressure and temperature while meeting the highest purity requirements,” said SEDCE Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Robert Hardin.
“We are confident that transporting clean hydrogen molecules using this MHX unit is the next way forward, and this Proof-of-Concept (PoC) will open up more market opportunities for Sarawak.”
The PoC shipment will travel from Kuching to Port Klang, Singapore, and Hong Kong before returning to Kuching.
“This journey will demonstrate Hydrexia’s MHX container’s enhanced Technology Readiness Level (TRL), enabling safe and scalable hydrogen transport by road, rail, and sea.
“The innovation mitigates risks, enhances security, and levels costs, making it an attractive option for early-stage hydrogen exports,” Robert added.
“This PoC demonstrates Sarawak’s capability to produce, transport, and export clean hydrogen molecules to international markets,” said SEDC Chairman, Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain.
“By leveraging Hydrexia’s MHX solid-state technology, we are validating both the technology and logistics required for cross-border hydrogen trade, positioning Sarawak as a trusted regional supplier.”
Hydrexia, a global leader in integrated hydrogen technology solutions, provides technology for hydrogen production, storage, transport, and end-use applications.
“Its MHX technology, based on magnesium solid-state storage in a standard 20-foot container, offers intrinsic safety, high density, and flexibility, gaining global attention for unlocking new export pathways.
“We are proud to partner with SEDCE in making this historic export shipment possible,” said Hydrexia Chairman and CEO, Alex Fang.
“Together, we are enabling cross-border hydrogen trade and creating new opportunities for regional and global markets.”
