KUCHING: Sarawak will formally takeover MASwings airline before Ramadan.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg described the acquisition of the airline as settled.

“What I can reveal today is that MASwings is ‘beres’ (settled). This means we are taking over, and soon there will be a signing (ceremony).

“It will happen within a month, before Ramadan. Possibly in Kuching,” he told reporters after delivering his address at the Amanat Perdana Premier Sarawak 2025 programme at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

When asked about the proposed name of the airline, Abang Johari replied: “Wait for the signing, then I’ll announce.”

On the matter of the assets involved in the acquisition, he said the takeover is at the price agreed upon by both parties.

Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari said the acquisition of MASwings, which is now in its final stage, will also position Sarawak as a gateway to ASEAN.

“With increased fleet capacity and enhanced services, our goal is to boost both domestic and international connectivity, particularly within a four- to seven-hour flight radius, boosting trade, tourism, and investment in the next five years,” he said.
