SARAWAK is looking forward to organising the Larian Obor Sukan SEA 2027 as part of efforts to ensure statewide participation and inclusivity.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said the initiative aims to promote the Games and build momentum across the state ahead of Sarawak’s role as co-host for the 2027 SEA Games.
“The programmes will strengthen division-level and community engagement as the Larian Obor Sukan SEA 2027 physically connects different divisions and brings the spirit of the Games to every part of Sarawak,” he said.

He was responding to Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hing during the question-and-answer session in the DUN today.
Sarawak will join several other states in co-hosting the 2027 SEA Games, with 17 sports scheduled to take place in Kuching.
Gerald said the Games would support major state development efforts, including the rollout of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system and the launch of state-owned carrier AirBorneo, both targeted for 2027.
He added that hosting the event is aligned with Sarawak’s aim to become a sporting powerhouse by 2030.
“The investment in world-class facilities is meant to create a lasting legacy for athlete development and position Sarawak as a hub for international sports tourism in Southeast Asia.
“Through economic diversification, the Games will also help stimulate the local economy and showcase Sarawak’s potential in tourism, hospitality and investment, with benefits that continue long after the event concludes,” he said.
