KUCHING: Sarawak is set to host a global digital exhibition next year, following an agreement between Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Digital Minister, Gobind Singh Deo.
Abang Johari confirmed Sarawak’s readiness to co-organise the large-scale event with the federal government and relevant agencies, targeting international participation.
He said the exhibition will bring together major global players to exchange knowledge, enhance content creativity, and foster international digital networks.
“Next year, we’ll do it. Sarawak will be the host. I don’t mind. We’ll share. You contribute, I contribute too,” he told Gobind.
“What is important is global networking, where the global economy now operates under one platform.”
Abang Johari said this when officiating the ‘Jelajah Malaysia Digital’ event at Tegas Digital Village here today.
Gobind had earlier proposed the idea, inspired by his visit to a film festival in France that attracted talent and investors worldwide.
The exhibition, he said, aims to attract global players in animation and gaming, opening opportunities for local talents to collaborate and bring their products to the global stage.
He stressed that Malaysia must act swiftly to showcase its capabilities, attract investors, and elevate its digital creative industry on the global stage.
“I’ve proposed to the Premier for us to host the event in Sarawak, together with the ministry and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
“I look forward to us working together on this. You have my full support, and I believe it can become a global platform to discuss how Malaysia can advance in this industry,” he said.
Gobind added that Sarawak’s cultural diversity, youthful creativity, and government support make it well-positioned to become a digital content hub in ASEAN.
He expressed optimism that digital content could serve as a bridge to connect Sarawak’s heritage with global audiences, expanding reach and economic potential.
“Sarawak saw 3.92 million tourist arrivals in 2023, contributing more than RM10 billion to the country. That’s a positive indicator,” he added.
