BARCELONA: Sarawak will host the International Council on Archives (ICA) Conference 2027, marking a proud milestone for Malaysia in the global field of archives and records management.
The announcement was made during a ceremony here recently, where Spain’s Minister of Culture Ernest Urtasun Domènech, acknowledged the presence of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and commended the state’s commitment to host the prestigious event.
According to ICA, the 2027 conference will be organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak in collaboration with the National Archives of Malaysia, the Sarawak government, and the Malaysian government.
Deputy chairman of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak and MTCP Special Administrative Officer Datuk Dr Rashidah Bolhassan expressed deep appreciation to ICA for the trust placed in Sarawak.
“We are truly honoured and deeply grateful for this opportunity to host the prestigious ICA Conference in 2027.
“This is a proud achievement for Sarawak as we take our place on the international stage in the field of archives and records management,” she said in a statement.
She also extended gratitude to the ICA Selection Committee and Executive Board, as well as the National Archives of Malaysia, for their continuous support and collaboration throughout the process.
“Together, we are committed to delivering a conference that is professionally enriching, culturally immersive, and globally inclusive,” she added.
