BANGKOK: Sarawak will host two major international water conferences, namely the Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition & Conference (BIWWEC) in 2026 and the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition in 2028.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said both conferences will be held in Kuching as part of the state’s wider development agenda.
“These conferences will serve as prominent global platforms that bring together leading experts, policymakers and industry leaders from around the world to discuss emerging challenges, share best practices and advance innovation within the water and wastewater sectors.
“They will also provide opportunities for global partners to shape the next generation of water resilience and resource governance,” he said.
He said this in his keynote address at the International Water Association (IWA) Water and Development Congress & Exhibition (WDEC) 2025 held at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, here today (Dec 9).
He also extended an open invitation to delegates and global partners.
“I therefore extend my warmest invitation to all of you to visit Kuching, Sarawak and experience our rich cultural heritage, diverse local delicacies and the renowned hospitality of our people,” he said.
Meanwhile, clarifying on the BIWWEC 2026, Malaysian Water Association (Sarawak Branch) chairman Kelvin Kuek said that Sarawak is lining up 3,000 delegates and participation from 40 countries.
The conference is said to be held on July 15 to 17 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in 2026.
