Sarawak will embark on a strategic benchmarking visit to Thailand to observe the operations of the 33rd SEA Games in 2025 as part of its preparations to host the event in 2027.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the move is aimed at ensuring world-class delivery when Sarawak makes history as a direct host of the SEA Games.
“As we prepare to welcome Southeast Asia’s top athletes in 2027, we recognise that the SEA Games represent more than just competition.

“They embody regional unity, youth empowerment, and the celebration of diversity,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today (May 27).
Abdul Karim said the knowledge gained from the Thailand visit would refine Sarawak’s planning and implementation strategies.
“Ultimately, the SEA Games will not only inspire future athletes but also position Kuching as a central hub for international sports in Southeast Asia, marking Sarawak’s bold stride onto the global stage,” he added.
