PASIR GUDANG: The Sarawak Traders Association of Johor is urging its members to fully utilise social media platforms to promote Sarawak’s traditional crafts and food products online.
Its chairperson, Josephine Jimbai, said this approach is crucial as the Borneo Market at Taman Megah Ria, Pasir Gudang, only operates three days a week – on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
“We cannot rely solely on face-to-face sales at the market. Social media offers a wider reach, allowing us to attract customers who may not be able to visit in person,” she said during the Ngiling Bidai celebration held in Skudai recently.
Josephine also encouraged traders to equip themselves with digital marketing skills to enhance their promotional efforts and increase sales reach.
“With the right strategy, this not only helps boost traders’ income but also introduces Sarawak’s rich culture to a broader audience,” she added.
She noted that the Borneo Market at Taman Megah Ria remains a valuable platform to showcase Sarawak’s traditional products in Johor.
However, she pointed out that its limited operating hours present a challenge – one that can be addressed through a more strategic digital approach.
“We need to keep up with technological developments. Social media is an opportunity we can’t afford to overlook,” she stressed.
