KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Tribune business writer Noor Syahhira Hady emerged as the top winner in the Anugerah Media Cetak & Portal Berita — Laporan Khas Berita category at the Anugerah Media Pembinaan CIDB 2025.
The award was presented during the Anugerah Media Pembinaan CIDB 2025 ceremony held in here last night (Dec 17), where Noor Syahhira received a trophy and RM5,000 in prize money.
The award recognised her four-part special report series published between Aug 21 and Aug 26 this year which examined sustainability challenges and green building adoption in Sarawak’s construction sector.
The series comprised ‘Green Buildings to Address Sustainability Challenges’,’Green Sustainability in Urban Planning’, ‘Debunking Misconceptions on GBI-rated Buildings’, and ‘Closing Skills Gaps in Sarawak’s Construction Sector’.
The first part highlighted Sarawak’s growing exposure to climate change and the role of the built environment in addressing sustainability, featuring insights from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), the Green Building Index (GBI) and Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) Sarawak.
It also highlighted projects such as UNIMAS’ Student Pavilion and Universiti Teknologi Sarawak’s Platinum campus, in line with Sarawak’s target of 25 certified green buildings by 2030 under the Sustainability Blueprint.
The second instalment focused on sustainability in urban planning, citing developments such as HSL’s AIR and Langit projects, and emphasised the importance of measurable performance, maintenance and incentives for wider adoption.
The third part addressed misconceptions surrounding GBI-rated buildings, with GBI chief executive officer Sarly Adre Sarkum stressing that sustainable design is most effective when integrated from the outset and does not necessarily involve high costs.
The final instalment examined skills gaps in Sarawak’s construction sector, highlighting the role of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) in training and certification, alongside calls from industry groups for aligned policies and affordable solutions to support wider adoption of green building practices.
