SELANGOR: Sarawak’s taekwondo campaign got off to a perfect start at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) on Friday (Aug 14), with Elvyna Fidellia, Martha Evyanna and Edison Phang all kicking their way into the quarter-finals after commanding victories.
Competing at the IDCC Ideal Convention Centre, the Sarawak trio swept through their Round of 16 bouts, each recording straight 2-0 wins to stay firmly in medal contention.
Elvyna opened the winning run in the girls’ flyweight category, dispatching Kelantan’s Nur Irdina in straight rounds.
Martha followed with another assured display, defeating Perak’s Nur Aleeya Maisara 2-0 in the girls’ finweight division.
Edison completed Sarawak’s clean sweep by overcoming Sabah’s Kobe Cruz Orow 2-0 in the men’s finweight category.
The trio are now just one victory away from the semi-finals.
Martha will square off against Sabah’s Sukie Alinskie J. Palikat in the quarter-finals, while Elvyna faces Kedah’s Nik Naura.
Edison, meanwhile, takes on Federal Territories’ Loi Kai Hek as he bids to kick on into the last four.
