SARAWAK’S 2026 Budget is built on a framework of five pillars, five goals and nine strategic thrusts designed to accelerate economic transformation and strengthen inclusive development statewide.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said these guiding elements form the backbone of the state’s fiscal direction, ensuring strong governance, disciplined spending and long-term economic resilience.
He said the Budget framework focuses on strengthening governance, driving growth, diversifying revenue streams and securing broad-based prosperity for all Sarawakians.
“Our five pillars anchor this Budget, ensuring reforms, fiscal discipline, expansionary spending, revenue diversification and inclusive development across the state.
“The five overarching goals reflect our commitment to higher income growth, social well-being, fiscal strength, regional competitiveness and green development.
“The nine strategic thrusts chart a clear path to transform the economy, foster investment, develop talent and deliver sustainable, people-centred progress,” he said.
He said this during the third session of fourth term of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.
Abang Johari said the pillars prioritise fiscal and structural reforms, disciplined spending and targeted investments in infrastructure, education, innovation and environmental sustainability.
He added the goals position Sarawak for long-term strength by improving social outcomes, boosting competitiveness and advancing its renewable energy leadership.
He said the nine thrusts guide efforts to diversify industries, strengthen human capital, protect resources, uplift rural areas and enhance government delivery.
“These pillars drive our financial resilience and ensure Sarawak remains adaptive, transparent and capable of sustaining future economic challenges.
“These goals guide our ambition to make Sarawak a regional economic powerhouse and a preferred investment destination,” he added.
“These thrusts ensure development remains inclusive, science-driven and aligned with the aspirations of every Sarawakian,” he said.
