Sarawak unveils ambitious renewable energy vision in Scotland

KUCHING: Sarawak made a powerful statement on the global stage with the unveiling of its ambitious renewable energy vision at the prestigious Energy Exports Conference (EEC) 2025 in Aberdeen, Scotland.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty) on Wednesday, Deputy Energy and Environmental Sustainability Minister, Datuk Dr Hazland Hipni, shared Sarawak’s strategic roadmap for clean energy development.

In a high-impact interactive interview session, he emphasised the state’s leadership role in ASEAN’s transition to a low-carbon future.

He highlighted key investments in hydropower, hydrogen production, and renewable infrastructure that underpin Sarawak’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and establishing itself as a regional clean energy hub.

Dr Hazland further stressed the critical role of public-private partnerships, technological innovation, and international collaboration in accelerating the energy transition.

He extended an open invitation to global investors and technology partners to explore and support sustainable energy projects in Sarawak, signalling the state’s readiness to foster growth and innovation.

The interactive format allowed delegates to engage directly with Dr Hazland, who addressed questions on Sarawak’s policies, export opportunities, and ongoing initiatives.

His participation demonstrated Sarawak’s proactive approach to environmental sustainability and its vision to serve as a model for renewable energy development across Southeast Asia.

Dr Hazland’s presence at EEC 2025 reinforced Sarawak’s emerging role as a global leader in renewable energy, fostering vital international partnerships and showcasing the Sarawak unwavering commitment to a sustainable energy future.

He was accompanied by a distinguished 12-member delegation which include the Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning & Development) Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman, Senior State Counsel (SAGC), and key representatives from SEB Dr Jady @ Zaidi Hassim, SEDC Energy and DBKU.

The team demonstrated Sarawak’s cohesive and strategic approach to accelerating clean energy innovation and attracting global investment.
