KUCHING: Exposure to Japan’s disciplined and high-tempo volleyball system awaits Sarawak’s Malaysia Games (SUKMA) indoor volleyball teams as they depart for a structured training camp and tournament assignment this month.

A total of 14 men and 12 women will be involved in the overseas stint as part of their continued preparations.

The programme, which runs from Mar 1 to 14, will see the men’s squad based at Kinki University for an intensive two-week training camp, while the women’s team will train at several universities in Osaka and Kyoto before competing in a tournament in Tokushima on Mar 12 to 13.

Their participation in the Tokushima meet comes upon invitation from their Japanese hosts, offering valuable competitive exposure against quality opposition.

SUKMA 2024 indoor volleyball women’s head coach Sanong Kulchim is also travelling from Bangkok to oversee preparations and guide the team throughout the stint.

The men began their stint with a gym session at Kinki University as part of their conditioning programme, while the women were seen training alongside Japanese players in a joint session, gaining firsthand exposure to the hosts’ tempo and discipline ahead of the Tokushima tournament.
