KUCHING: Sarawak’s political stability, clear policies, open-minded society and strong focus on human capital development have positioned the state as a preferred destination for foreign investors in the renewable energy and green technology sectors.

According to a news report by TVS, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said Sarawak has built a solid foundation to attract foreign interest, especially in the fields of hydrogen and clean energy, thanks to its consistent governance and progressive social landscape.

“Politically, we are among the most stable states in Malaysia. Kuching itself is known as a ‘City of Unity’. Our people are open-minded and well-educated, especially in communication and skills.

“With clear policies and strategies, supported by a skilled and adaptive workforce, Sarawak is well-positioned to move forward and achieve the Sarawak Vision 2030 of becoming a prosperous state,” he said.

Fadillah said this while responding to a question from Kevin Ong Abdullah during a dialogue session titled ‘Sarawak at the Forefront: Malaysia’s Role in Driving Regional Clean Energy Leadership’, held in conjunction with the International Energy Week (IEW) 2025 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Tuesday.

He stressed that the Sarawak Government is committed to equipping its people with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to state development and support incoming investments, especially in emerging technologies.

Fadillah also noted growing international interest in Sarawak’s hydrogen initiatives, with countries like Japan and South Korea keen to collaborate in developing hydrogen technology alongside PETRONAS.

“Projects like Hibiscus Hydrogen are among the most advanced in the clean energy sector. We need international investors not only for financial capital, but also for technology transfer and expertise,” he said.

He added that foreign investors play a crucial role in accelerating the adoption of new technologies in Sarawak.

“That’s why we are seeing more international investment flowing into the state. During my recent trips abroad, many parties expressed interest, and Sarawak is now recognised as a leader in renewable and clean energy development,” he explained.

Fadillah further stated that global interest in Sarawak continues to rise, with many stakeholders wanting to learn more and be part of the state’s growing clean energy sector.

With strategic initiatives underway, including hydrogen economy development and technological partnerships with developed countries, Sarawak is on the right path to becoming a regional hub for green energy.
