GEDONG: The Sarawak Women’s Association or Persekutuan Perkumpulan Wanita Sarawak (PPWS) is encouraged to continue playing an active role in organising community-based programmes to boost its visibility and contribute positively to community development, particularly for women in rural areas.
Batang Sadong Member of Parliament (MP) Rodiyah Sapiee said PPWS plays a key role as a catalyst for women’s development.
She stressed that the association’s contributions extend beyond the social sphere, encompassing economic empowerment, education, and community leadership.
“I hope PPWS at the village and branch levels will organise more programmes such as skills workshops, entrepreneurship training, women’s health talks, and family-oriented seminars.
“Such efforts are important for them to have a stronger presence and be more widely recognised,” she said during her speech at the 2025 Ngiling Tikai celebration in Kampung Semalatong A recently.
Rodiyah also reaffirmed her commitment to supporting PPWS initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of women in the Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency.
“PPWS must move in tandem with progress while preserving family values and local traditions, which are the essence of Sarawakian women’s identity,” she added.
As a show of support, Rodiyah also presented a RM5,000 allocation to PPWS Kampung Semalatong A to support the Niti Daun parade scheduled to take place next year.
