KUCHING: Industry leaders, educators, and policymakers must align with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 targets, said Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
He said since Sarawak’s development agenda is anchored on the new economy, green technology, and renewable energy, industries must realign themselves with these policies.
“So, that is where they (industries) have to realign themselves because they are going to be the service providers.
“That is why it’s important to understand future requirements, as we are preparing the workforce accordingly,” he told reporters after officiating at the ‘AI-Driven Talent: Shaping the Future of Sarawak Workforce Development’ event at a hotel here today.
Sagah said Sarawak’s human capital must be equipped to grab opportunities and meet the challenges of emerging sectors such as green technology.
“They must know what is needed in those industries. And we have institutions, our universities and our technical institutions, who are ready to give them training on this, including upskilling.
“For graduates, they also need reskilling and upskilling sometimes, to stay relevant with the current development of our economic policy,” he said.
Earlier in his speech, he said artificial intelligence (AI) is more than a tool but a force multiplier.
“When integrated into our workforce planning, AI can identify emerging skills demands faster than traditional systems, personalise training pathways to accelerate competency building and enhance productivity and innovation across every sector.
“By embedding AI in talent strategies, we are equipping Sarawakians not only to fill jobs but to create them.
“Imagine a Sarawak where a student in a rural school, an engineer in Bintulu and an entrepreneur in Kuching all have equal access to AI-powered learning and opportunity. That is the vision we are working toward,” he said.
He also called for stronger partnerships to speed up AI adoption in training and workplace systems, while ensuring inclusivity so rural communities can benefit equally alongside urban areas.
