KUCHING: Sarawakian artists and performers who have produced albums and songs have been urged to register with Music Rights Sarawak Berhad (MRSB).
Susan Clement Ingun, a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, said that this is to ensure their work is properly safeguarded.
“At the same time, we also want to look after the welfare of all individuals involved in the local music industry scene, including composers, songwriters and singers.
“I want also MRSB to support our local artists. For example, in the case of Penghulu Andrewson Ngalai Asom, whose popular song “Bekikis Bulu Betis” was used and re-recorded without his permission.
“Because of this, he has taken legal action against those who used his song without permission.”
Susan, representing Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan, was speaking at the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between MRSB and Global Live Sdn Bhd at Kingwood Inn Hotel here on Monday (May 20).
“We have a similar objective, which is to empower our local music and entertainment industry.”
She stated that through the MoU, the uniqueness and identity of Sarawak can be spread not only in Malaysia, but to the whole world.
“May our music industry grow to become a successful one in the years to come.”
The MoU signifies that Global Live Sdn Bhd will act as the exclusive Service Management Agent for artists registered with MRSB, aiming to provide better opportunities and support for Sarawakian musicians.
