KUCHING: Dr Ismuni Bohari of Kampung Semera, Sadong Jaya, has been appointed as the new deputy-director general of Public Health at the Ministry of Health (MOH).
The Public Service Department, in announcing the appointment, said Dr Ismuni officially assumed his new role on Apr 28.
Congratulating him on the appointment, Women, Family and Community Development Minister and Santubong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri described Dr Ismuni’s achievement as a moment of pride for Sarawak.
“Dr Ismuni has made significant contributions to the field of public health and has consistently demonstrated a high level of commitment and close cooperation in every task entrusted to him.
“As a Sarawakian, his achievement is a source of great pride and an inspiration to the younger generation in the state,” she said in Facebook post.
Nancy added she is is confident Dr Ismuni, with his extensive experience and dedication, will carry out this trust with excellence for the wellbeing of all Malaysians, particularly in strengthening the nation’s public health sector.
Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Sarawak chairman Dr Ong Eng-Joe, also extended his congratulations to Dr Ismuni.
“On behalf of MMA Sarawak, congratulations Dr Ismuni (former Serian Hospital director), on your recent appointment,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Ismuni’s alma mater, Universiti Malaya (UM), also celebrated his achievement, describing it as a testament to his unwavering commitment, exemplary leadership, and distinguished service in the field of public health.
According to the university, Dr Ismuni’s illustrious career began after obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1998.
He later pursued further studies at UM, earning both a Master of Public Health (MPH) and an MPH in Health Services Management, graduating in 2003 and 2006 respectively.
Early in his career, Dr Ismuni made significant contributions to the Quality and Standard Unit under the office of the deputy director-general of Health (Public Health), where he played a key role in enhancing public health services and education nationwide.
UM added Dr Ismuni is also a registered public health medicine specialist under the National Specialist Register (NSR).
Over more than two decades of service, he has consistently demonstrated deep commitment to public service, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the communities he served, the university said.
He previously served as the director of the Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan Health Office, the Perlis State Health Department, and most recently, the Kedah State Health Department.
