KUCHING: Sarawak-born referee Mandy Ngieng sustained a facial injury while officiating a Malaysia U23 Development League match on Oct 24 at MABA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.

The incident prompted Major Basketball League (MBL) to suspend Parkcity Heat head coach Goh Cheng Huat pending investigation.

The incident occurred during the game between Johor Southern Tigers and Parkcity Heat when Goh was involved in an altercation that resulted in Ngieng being struck.

She received immediate medical attention and is now recovering.

In a statement issued recently, the MBL expressed concern for Ngieng and emphasised the importance of referee safety.

“The MBL remains unwavering in its commitment to transparency, fairness and integrity.

“We take any action that threatens the integrity of the game or the safety and well-being of referees, players and officials very seriously.” it said.

Goh’s suspension will remain in effect while the MBL collects reports from the match commissioner and technical officials.

The case will then be forwarded to the Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA) Disciplinary Committee for review and final determination.

The league reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and integrity, pledging strict action against misconduct on the court.

The incident has drawn attention across the Malaysian basketball community, highlighting the need for respect and discipline in the sport.
