KUCHING: A new Sarawakian short film, Space Between, is set to make its national broadcast debut this Father’s Day, offering audiences across Malaysia a glimpse into the state’s rich storytelling potential.

The film will air on TVS (Channel 122 MYTV, Unifi TV & Astro) at 5.30pm on June 15.

Written and directed by Sarawak-based filmmaker Danish Busmah, Space Between was premiered at TGV Cinemas, Vivacity Megamall here today at a special screening organised by 21 Ways Film.

The event brought together filmmakers, creative industry partners, media, and supporters of the local arts scene in a warm celebration of Sarawakian cinema.

“This film was born from a deep desire to tell stories that feel true to our land and our people,” said Danish.

“Filming in Niah National Park allowed us to ground the story in a space that holds both natural beauty and cultural resonance. I’m proud of what our local team achieved, and I hope audiences will connect with the emotional journey we’ve created.”

The premiere screening was graced by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who attended as guest of honour.

Produced by 21 Ways Film, a Sarawakian production house dedicated to amplifying local voices, Space Between was made possible through the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP), via the Sarawak Heritage, Arts and Culture Facilitation Fund, in collaboration with TVS.

Set entirely within the Unesco World Heritage-listed Niah National Park, Space Between is the first film to be fully shot on location there.

The story follows a father and daughter played by Julai Billie and Darweesha Dasuki  as they navigate silence, memory, and their relationship on a poignant journey through the rainforest.

The film represents a milestone for 21 Ways Film in its mission to nurture homegrown talent and strengthen Sarawak’s creative industry.

With plans to submit Space Between to several film festivals, the team hopes the story will resonate with audiences both locally and internationally, while proudly showcasing Sarawak’s identity and artistic voice.
