KUCHING: A student from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has written an open letter to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg regarding the ongoing water supply issues at the university.

The student, Muhammad Rasul Rozmiezan, a second-year student from Sarawak, voiced his hope that the matter would receive the Premier’s serious attention.

In the letter, Rasul highlighted that the university has been facing inconsistent and prolonged water supply disruptions for a long time.

These interruptions, he said, frequently last for several days and recur over multiple weeks, severely affecting students’ daily routines and the overall hygiene of their surroundings.

He further explained that the ongoing disruptions have negatively impacted students’ quality of life.

“A university should offer a safe and conducive learning environment, but the current situation is deeply disappointing and burdensome,” he stated.

“With utmost respect and humility, I appeal to YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri to consider looking into this issue, and help bring the voices of Sarawakian students studying far from home to the attention of the relevant national authorities,” he wrote.

Rasul also noted the challenges of being far from family and having to manage basic necessities independently, describing it as a difficult reality for many students.

He ended the letter by expressing his hope that the Premier would give due consideration to the matter, and take swift action to safeguard the welfare of the students.

At the time of writing, the video accompanying the letter has garnered 132,100 views.
