SARIKEI: Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, called on Sarawakians to embrace unity, strengthen their shared identity, and uphold the spirit of independence.
Fatimah said this year’s theme, ‘Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni’, serves as a reminder to value togetherness and shared responsibility.
“Despite our diversity of ethnicities, cultures and beliefs, Sarawak has proven that diversity is not a barrier to unity but a true source of strength,” she said at the Sarawak-level National Day 2025 celebration at Dewan Suarah Sarikei today.
Fatimah highlighted the importance of three significant dates, namely Sarawak Day (July 22), National Day (August 31) and Malaysia Day (September 16), in shaping Sarawak’s identity and fostering a collective sense of belonging.

She urged Sarawakians to foster a “liberated spirit” that is free from ignorance, hatred and division, and to continue building a progressive, competitive and united Sarawak.
Fatimah also reminded youths to safeguard harmony and peace, which she described as a priceless legacy passed down through the sacrifices of past generations.
Under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, she said Sarawak’s development efforts are guided by the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), focusing on economic growth, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.
“Unity is the pillar of independence. Without strong unity, the freedom we enjoy today would not be possible,” she said.
