BINTULU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg urged Sarawakians to reject all forms of extremism and fanaticism that could threaten the harmony and peace long enjoyed in the state.
He reminded that all citizens are equal under the law, which is guided by the Federal Constitution, and that unity remains the cornerstone of Sarawak’s growth.
“With strong unity and people’s well-being, I am confident Sarawak will continue to progress and prosper,” he said.
He said this in his speech delivered by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the Interfaith Thanksgiving Event held in conjunction with the state-level Malaysia Day celebration 2025 at Imperial Hotel here on Sunday night.
Abang Johari also stressed that Sarawak’s development can only be realised through active participation, cooperation and strong support from the people, including religious leaders.
At the same time, he highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), established in 2017.
“As of today, a total of RM475 million has been allocated by the Sarawak Government through UNIFOR to houses of worship statewide.
“In addition, since 2021, RM90 million has been specially allocated for mission schools, bringing the total funding under UNIFOR to RM565 million,” he said.
