KUCHING: Sarawakians, especially the younger generation, are urged to continue embracing Sarawak Day as a powerful symbol of identity, cultural heritage, and unity.
In his Sarawak Day 2025 message, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said July 22 is more than just a public holiday, it is a historic milestone that commemorates the formation of Sarawak’s state identity before joining the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.
“If we, the Anak Sarawak, don’t celebrate it, then who will? Would Australia, Canada, or even Malaysia do it for us? Of course not… This is our responsibility as Sarawakians,” he asserted.
He added that Sarawak Day is a vital occasion to ignite a shared sense of belonging while showcasing the richness of Sarawak’s culture and the best of its values.
Dr Sim also noted that the celebration goes beyond symbolism, it plays a crucial role in strengthening Sarawak’s identity, in line with the aspirations of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“All these efforts are aimed at building a Sarawak that thrives in well-being, harmony, and inclusivity. We are now closer than ever to reaching that goal,” he added.
Concluding his message, he extended his heartfelt Sarawak Day wishes to all Sarawakians—both at home and abroad—and expressed his hope that this celebration would continue to serve as a platform for nurturing patriotism and deepening the love for our beloved state.
This year’s official Sarawak Day celebration is being held in Miri from July 20 to July 22, featuring a range of highlight events including a gala performance that brings together people from all walks of life.
