THE electricity bill discount provided under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS), which expired on Dec 31 last year, will not be continued.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said during the outbreak of Covid-19, the Sarawak government initiated a special discount on electricity bills under the BKSS to alleviate the burden on the people facing the challenges of the pandemic.

“A total of RM1.28bil was allocated for this initiative.

“As the situation has returned to normal, the BKSS electricity bill discount, which expired on Dec 31, 2023, is not continued further.”

He said this when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday (May 13).

Earlier, Julaihi said Sarawak has the lowest electricity supply tariff in Malaysia.

“The average electricity tariff rate in Sarawak is 28.05 cents per kilowatt-hour compared to 34.5 cents per kilowatt-hour in Sabah and 40 cents per kilowatt-hour in Peninsular Malaysia.

“This rate is the lowest in Malaysia and is among the lowest in the region.”
