KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak’s largest higher education expo, Jom Masuk U (JMU), make its return this Saturday and Sunday (April 11 and 12) at the Penview Convention Centre (PCC), bringing together institutions of higher learning from across Malaysia under one roof.
The two-day expo, organised in strategic partnership between the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and UiTM Sarawak, is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the state, mirroring last year’s remarkable turnout of nearly 500,000 visitors in Kuching alone.
The expo is open to all members of the public, not just school-leavers.
SPM and STPM candidates, diploma holders, graduates and anyone looking to pursue or continue their education — from foundation level right up to PhD — are all welcome to attend.
UITM Sarawak rector Professor Dr Firdaus Abdullah spoke to the press during the JMU 2026 Carnival Sarawak Zone 1 press conference at UiTM Samarahan Campus 2 on Tuesday (April 7).
“This is also open to candidates who want to continue their studies for the rest of their lives.
“Lifelong learning is one important agenda of the Ministry of Higher Education,” he said.
A total of 54 booths will be set up across the venue, comprising 20 public universities, 21 private higher learning institutions as well as polytechnics, community colleges, the Industrial Training Institute (IKM) and other skills training bodies, representing virtually every higher education pathway available in Malaysia.
Visitors will have the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from these institutions, receive academic counselling and get detailed information about available programmes during dedicated one-on-one 30-minute sessions with educators.
Beyond the exhibition booths, the programme is packed with activities designed to educate and engage visitors of all ages.
Highlights include hands-on STEM activities, student and academic staff innovation showcases, and an art and design exhibition featuring works from UiTM’s Faculty of Art and Design.
The expo will be officially opened on Saturday by Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, who will represent Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
