KUCHING: Boxing training centres across Sarawak serve as key platforms for nurturing future boxing champions.

Sarawak Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo, highlighted the significance of these centres in producing skilled boxers who will go on to represent both Sarawak and Malaysia on the national and international stage.

“Boxing in Sarawak now has 14 training centres where young talents are trained and developed.

“I extend my congratulations to each centre for their dedication in guiding and preparing athletes while adhering to the training schedules set by the head coach and the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC),” he said.

Rahman was speaking to reporters after a Hari Raya open house at his residence today (Apr 1).

He added that SSC’s commitment ensures Sarawak remains a stronghold for boxing, particularly in hosting and competing in major championships.

He also stated that the training centres, strategically located across Sarawak, play a crucial role in maintaining a structured boxing programme.

“I will ensure that young boxers are sent to the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championship, which will take place in October in Bangladesh, with 46 countries participating,” he said.
