KUCHING: The creative community in Sarawak holds great potential and talent capable of making an impact on the global stage, says Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.
He said this is evident through the outstanding achievements of several local companies in the creative industry, including Betapuru Digital Sdn Bhd and indie game studio CTRL D.
He added these companies have successfully proven that Sarawak’s creative talents are not only capable but world-class.
“It is our responsibility to continue supporting them by providing infrastructure and opportunities for growth,” he said.
He said this in his speech during the Launching of KRE8TIF! East 2025: Empowering Tomorrow’s Creative, Today, here today (May 14).
On a related note, he shared that last year, MDEC organized the Malaysia Digital Tour (JMD) throughout Sarawak, focusing on improving the digital skills of the B40 community, youth, entrepreneurs, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWD), and other communities in need.
He added that this Friday (May 16), the JMD programme will return to Sarawak and will be attended by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
“This programme is important in highlighting the strength and rapid growth of Sarawak’s digital economy.”
Earlier, Ugak also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MDEC and MYTV Broadcasting Malaysia, which is expected to open new avenues for showcasing Malaysian animation content to a broader audience, both nationally and internationally.
