KUCHING: Sarawak’s music scene celebrated a milestone as 11-year-old vocalist, Taylor Louise, gained international recognition by performing at Paris’ Studio Opéra Bastille, becoming the youngest Sarawakian to appear on the prestigious stage.

On December 12, Taylor received two honours from the Paris International Music Competition, including the Grand Prize Virtuoso.
She also became the first 11-year-old Sarawakian to win the Exceptional Young Talent Special Prize, an award recognising outstanding young performers with exceptional promise, and secured First Prize in the Pop Category (ages 10 to 12), standing out among participants from multiple countries.
During her performance, Taylor captivated the audience with her rendition of ‘From The Start’ by Laufey, demonstrating musical maturity, expressive delivery, and vocal versatility beyond her years.
Her appearance was met with enthusiastic response, with organisers and audience members praising her confident stage presence and heartfelt interpretation.
Many in attendance described her as one of the audience favourites of the evening.
Reflecting on the experience, Taylor expressed gratitude to those who supported her journey.
“I am grateful to my parents, my family, my coach and everyone who believed in me. It is an honour to represent Sarawak and Malaysia on this stage,” she said in her statement on Saturday.
Her international achievements have brought pride to Sarawak and continue to inspire young artists, demonstrating that talent and dedication can open doors to the world’s top performance venues.
