BANGKOK: Sarawak’s Jackie Wong clinched the bronze medal for Malaysia in the men’s hammer throw after recording 59.81 metres (m) at the SEA Games today.

Wong, 33, who hails from Sarikei, delivered a consistent series throughout the competition, beginning with 58.26m before building momentum and registering his best throw on his fourth attempt to secure a podium finish.

He finished behind compatriot, Sadat Marzuqi Ajisan, who claimed the silver with a season-best 60.15m.

Sadat started strongly with 59.15m and later improved to his top mark to overtake Wong.

The gold medal went to Thailand’s Boonmawan Kittipong, who opened with an impressive 61.91m before sealing victory with 63.11m on his third attempt.

Wong remains Malaysia’s benchmark in the event, holding the national record of 68.22m, set during his peak years as the country’s premier hammer thrower.

This outing at Suphachalasai Stadium, National Stadium, in Bangkok marks Wong’s continued consistency at regional level as he competes in his fourth SEA Games, having previously featured in the 2017, 2021 and 2023 editions.
