KUCHING: The Sarawak Orchid Society (SARORSO) has reaffirmed its commitment to conserving and promoting Sarawak’s native orchids through continuous education, advocacy and preservation efforts.
The society reiterated its dedication during a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here on Wednesday.
The visit, led by SARORSO’s newly appointed patron, Dayang Norjihan Abang Johari, aimed to highlight the society’s mission and future initiatives.
Dayang Norjihan’s appointment marks the continuation of the legacy of her late mother, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, who had previously served as patron and played a vital role in championing orchid conservation in the state.
The society also reaffirmed its support for the Sarawak Government’s vision in promoting biodiversity conservation and developing agro-tourism based on local resources.
Established in 2018, SARORSO serves as a platform for orchid enthusiasts to advance cultivation, hybridisation and preservation of Sarawak’s native species.
Under the leadership of its late patron, the society grew into a recognised entity at both state and national levels through various educational, conservation and cultural activities.
Also present during the visit were SARORSO Chairman, Tengku Dr Auvaroza Tengku Abraham, President Zurenawatie Zaidil, Deputy President Norliza Sa’di, and Head of Youth (Youth Interest in Botanic Garden) Mohammad Nur Fikry Soekery.
