KUCHING: Sarawak’s taekwondo exponents stamped their mark on the international stage after delivering a three-gold haul at the 2nd Mount Everest GCS International Open Taekwondo Poomsae Championships 2026 (WT G-1) in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Competing against top international contenders, the Sarawak contingent, alongside their national teammates, demonstrated exceptional discipline and technical excellence, securing three gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal in the poomsae events.
The championship was held from Feb 13 to 18, 2026.
The G1 event was officially sanctioned by World Taekwondo (WT), organised under the Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU), and hosted by the Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA).
In the poomsae discipline, Sarawak athletes delivered outstanding performances.
Nur Humaira Abdul Karim secured a silver medal in the Female Individual category and partnered with Jason Loo to capture gold in the Mixed Pair event.
Seah Jing Ying earned bronze in the Female Individual division, while Chin Ken Haw claimed gold in the Male Individual category.
Together with fellow Sarawakian, Randy Owen Augustine Linggi, and teammate Jason Loo, he added another gold in the Male Team event.
Their achievements significantly boosted Malaysia’s overall medal tally and highlighted Sarawak’s growing strength in international taekwondo.
President of the Sarawak State Taekwondo Association (TM/WT), Azizul Annuar Adenan, praised the athletes for their dedication and perseverance.
“This is a proud moment for Sarawak and Malaysia, affirming the nation’s rising global stature in taekwondo. Their hard work showed in every match. This result reflects their discipline and determination,” he said in a statement today.
The association also expressed appreciation to Taekwondo Malaysia (WT) national team coaches, parents and supporters, whose continuous encouragement has been instrumental in nurturing high-performance athletes.
The remarkable success in Kathmandu marks another milestone for Sarawak taekwondo and reinforces the state’s commitment to developing world-class talent on the global stage.
