KUCHING: Sarawak’s growing influence in Malaysian rugby was reflected at the MSSM Rugby Championship 2026, where two officials from the state were appointed to oversee matches at the national schools tournament.

The officials were Ahmad Zaidi Mohamed and Szeller Arie Chundi, who served as match officials during the championship held in Ipoh, Perak, from June 7 to 12.

Their appointments were welcomed by the Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU), which described the selection as a recognition of their commitment, professionalism and contributions to the development of rugby officiating in the state.

In a social media post, SRU extended its congratulations to both officials and commended them for representing Sarawak on the national stage.

“Congratulations to Ahmad Zaidi Mohamed and Szeller Arie Chundi on their appointments as match officials for the MSSM Rugby Championship 2026.

“May they continue to excel and bring pride to Sarawak in Malaysian rugby,” the post said.

The appointments highlighted the growing role of Sarawak officials in national competitions, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s rugby ecosystem both on and off the field.
