SELANGOR: Sarawak’s volleyball squads have given themselves a timely boost ahead of Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, with both the men and women reporting smooth preparations for their respective campaigns.
The men’s team, managed by Chin Hing Ka, completed their court familiarisation session today and are ready for their opening match against Sabah tomorrow (Monday, Aug. 17).
Chin said the players were excited after getting a feel of the court, while the coaching staff had also made the necessary preparations for the opener.
“So far so good. Today they tested the court already and I see the players are quite excited. The coaches are also well prepared for tomorrow’s first game against Sabah,” he said.
Chin said two players had experienced minor health concerns but stressed that neither case was serious, with the team monitoring their condition and providing vitamins and other necessary support.
However, Chin admitted that the hot weather remained a concern for the team, that arrived in Selangor on Saturday (Aug. 15).
“I hope all the players can play their best and get the championship,” he told Sarawak Tribune when met.
Meanwhile, women’s team manager, Stephanie Law, said her squad is fully prepared and has no injury concerns heading into the competition.
She added that most of the players are familiar with the court at Dewan MBSA Seksyen 4, having played there during national tournaments.
Five of the 14 players have previous experience at the venue, while six of the 14 players in the men’s squad are familiar with their competition court at Dewan MBSA Seksyen 19.
With both squads reporting good preparations and no major fitness concerns, Sarawak will be hoping to translate their readiness into strong performances when their respective campaigns get underway.
