BANGKOK: Sarawak’s Wong Ling Ching displayed remarkable resilience and skill as she took on Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in a nail-biting three-set match during the SEA Games women’s team event.

The 22-year-old shuttler from Miri emerged victorious with scores of 22-20, 15-21, 21-16, showcasing her determination and tactical prowess against a highly experienced opponent.

Despite her impressive win, Malaysia narrowly lost the overall tie to Indonesia 3-2, ending their hopes of advancing to the final.

The young Sarawakian admitted she did not expect to win but fought hard to keep the scoreboard close.

“I knew she was a skillful and experienced player, so I just focused on chasing every shuttle and giving my best for the team,” Wong said after the match.

Wong’s grit and fighting spirit earned praise from fans and officials alike, highlighting the promise she brings to Malaysian badminton.

Although the women’s team fell short of a final berth, their performances throughout the tournament demonstrated heart and potential.

The SEA Games continues to be a platform where rising stars like Wong Ling Ching gain valuable experience and recognition on the regional stage.

Wong is scheduled to play in her singles event on December 10.
