KUCHING: Sarawakian women’s singles shuttler, Wong Ling Ching, will make her World Championships debut after being named in Malaysia’s squad for the 2026 edition in New Delhi, India, from August 17 to 23.
The Badminton World Federation’s phase one eligibility list confirmed the world rank 36 place alongside K. Letshanaa in the women’s singles draw, marking another milestone in the Sarawakian’s steady rise on the international stage.
While the national athlete earned a breakthrough, two notable names missed the cut.
Former world No. 2, Lee Zii Jia, missed the cut for the first time in six editions after slipping to No. 82 during the qualification period, while Goh Jin Wei did not qualify as well after being ranked No. 53 at the time.
Malaysia’s men’s singles challenge will instead be led by Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh.
In men’s doubles, the country will be represented by Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.
Women’s doubles will feature last year’s runners-up, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, together with rising pair, Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee.
Malaysia’s mixed doubles campaign will be spearheaded by defending champions, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, alongside husband-and-wife pair, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie.
