MIRI: The Sarawak Government is committed to establishing a foundation aimed at empowering the state’s youth, equipping them to contribute to Sarawak’s development and elevate its global standing.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said a well-prepared youth will drive not only development but also enhance the economy and improve the people’s quality of life.

He said youngsters must possess certain essential traits in their journey to make Sarawak a developed, sustainable, and prosperous state.

“The youth must have self-confidence. With self-confidence, they can face any challenges. But self-confidence alone is not enough; discipline is key. You must value your time and use it wisely to increase your own value.

“Social interactions with friends, the community, and beyond, along with setting an ultimate goal, are critical for youth development.

“Leadership requires interaction across our diverse ethnic and religious communities. This unity should be driven by a common objective,” he said during the Sarawak Day townhall session here today.

He added, as Sarawak progresses toward economic transition, the youth must possess a global mindset to sustain quality leadership in the future.

Abang Johari also noted that with Sarawak’s aging leadership, the next generation is expected to take the reins.

“Sarawak’s future is very bright. We have the potential to lead the global green economy, including digital technologies.

“Our foundation is laid for the youth to gain knowledge. Universities are available, and Sarawak’s children receive free tertiary education. It’s up to them to seize the opportunity,” he said.
