SARIKEI: The Iftar event organised by the Surau Committee of the Sarikei District Council (MDS) was held with great festivity and camaraderie at the Sarikei Central Hall last night.
Although the Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Sarikei MP, and Repok assemblyman, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, was unable to attend due to his participation in the Senate session in Parliament, the event was still merry with the presence of many guests who took the time to join in.
The keynote speech by Huang was delivered by his representative, Councillor Wong Zee Yeng, Chairman of the MDS.
“Breaking fast together is not only about strengthening ties of friendship but also about fostering gratitude and unity,” said Huang in the speech read by Wong.
“The spirit of 1Malaysia remains a core value of this event, where MDS consistently celebrates various festivals together, such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai, and Christmas,” he added.
He noted that this Iftar event is not only a platform for enjoying meals together but also a symbol of unity and harmony within the MDS community.
Expressions of appreciation were also extended to the Surau Committee of MDS, which has been established since 2010, as well as to all parties who worked hard to make this event a success.
Additionally, a donation ceremony for orphans was held in conjunction with the Iftar event.
A total of 10 orphans received contributions from the Surau Committee of MDS.
