MERADONG: A total of 196 pupils received assistance in the form of school uniforms and shoes for the 2026 school year during a handover ceremony held around the Meradong area today.

The assistance was contributed by Sarikei Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

The handover was carried out through visits to schools by the service centre team of the elected representative, with all recipients comprising Year Six pupils who will be transitioning to secondary school, particularly the transition class and Form One, next year.

The programme involved pupils from several primary schools, including SK Abang Amin, SJKC Kai Chung, SK Bandar Bintangor, SJKC Ming Tee, SK Gemuan, SJKC Ming Lu, SJKC Ming Ching, SJKC Min Daik, SK Nanga Stras, SK Sungai Mador, SK Ulu Binatang, SK Ulu Stras, SK Bukit Nibong, SK Ulu Meradong and SJKC Nan Chiew.

Huang, who is also the Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, said the provision of school uniforms and shoes was aimed at easing the financial burden on parents while giving pupils greater confidence as they move on to the next stage of their education.

“I have been providing this assistance since 2019 to help students in the Repok area with basic school necessities such as uniforms and shoes,” he said.

He added that the initiative reflected his continued commitment to safeguarding the welfare of students in the Sarikei parliamentary constituency.

Huang also expressed hope that the assistance would be fully utilised and serve as motivation for pupils to begin the new school session with greater confidence and comfort, while striving for academic excellence.
