Sarikei police nab motorcyclist for meth possession

SARIKEI: A late-afternoon patrol on Sunday (Jan 18) along Jalan Sungai Kesa here ended with police making a drug arrest after a man was allegedly found in possession suspected methamphetamine,

The arrest was made at around 5pm when the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) spotted a motorcycle ridden by the suspect in a suspicious manner.

Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said checks led to the discovery of four transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.

Following that, both the suspect and the seized drugs weighing 5.05g was taken to the NCID office for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of specific, intermediate quantities of dangerous drugs.

Upon conviction, the man could face imprisonment for a term of up to five years and caning up to nine strokes.

Supt Aswandy assured that the police, particularly the NCID, will continue to intensify efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse.
